Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Budgies

Today, many budgies are breeding. This process is quite interesting and useful for feathered pets that are difficult to tolerate loneliness. For those who are already experienced, information about babies may not be new.

But for beginners it is always interesting whether there will be hand-held chicks of budgerigars, how many of them can be from one clutch, and, most importantly, how to care for them correctly?

How does the appearance of chicks occur

After the female begins to hatch the clutch, the babies will appear on about 17-35 days. This happens sequentially: starting from day 16, the wavy begin to peck the shell every 2 days, in the exact order in which the eggs appeared.

It is very simple to determine how long it will take for the kids – the female is in the house for a long time, and the male lingers for a long time next to his girlfriend, feeds her, combes her feathers and sings a song.

Throughout the whole time, the female warms the masonry with the heat of her body, occasionally leaving in order to empty herself. At such moments, a male can join her.

In order for the chicks of the parrots to develop correctly, the female must turn the eggs, maintaining a temperature of about 37 degrees Celsius. Humidity should be optimal.

When the time comes, a small parrot begins to peck eggs from the blunt side where the air sac is. Thanks to him, the baby can hold out in its usual shell for several more days, and during this time he can peck the very outside of the egg. It is possible to determine that the chick is about to hatch by characteristic cracks.

Wavy are born blind and helpless. Their body is covered with a rare fluff, but there is no plumage on them. Only when they were born, they lie in one heap, while the female warms them with her heat. A natural posture is lying on your stomach. The female feeds offspring until about 21 days, after which the babies can already be planted. The mother of parrots feeds the food that she burps from the glandular section of the stomach (goiter).

In wild conditions, the male independently selects a diet for the female, naturally giving her as much food as she can get. At home, the owner of a pair of budgies should take care of this.

After the first week of life, when future baby chicks of budgies begin to open their eyes, they grow rapidly. During this period, the male begins to help the female to feed offspring.

Parents fill the craw of kids with food, because, in this way, they can already eat on their own. Very soon it will be easy to determine when the kids can be planted, but before that, they need to completely cover themselves with feathers. After 7-8 days, a denser fluff appears on the body, and after 10-12, the first feathers.

The female begins to leave the nest more often after 12-14 days. During this period, the owner of the young needs to be looked after so that their crawfish are filled.

It is easy enough to determine when grains are clearly visible through the skin in this area. And after another 10 days, young growth can already be planted. On days 20-21, the undulations are already fully feathered and can firmly sit on the arm.

Budgerigar female feeding

Therefore, as soon as future hand-held chicks of budgerigars were born, do not forget to put the following products in the feeder:

  • egg mixture;
  • lettuce or dandelion leaves;
  • ground eggshell into flour (source of calcium);
  • grated vegetables;
  • small pieces of fruit.

It is useful to give the female germinated grain, thanks to which she produces goiter milk, which she gives to the smallest chicks.

Do not feed budgerigars with one grain mixture, since malnutrition during such a difficult period for a young mother can lead to disturbances in the feeding process and chicks. Young growth or some chicks may die from the fact that the female did not feed them on the first day.

However, in most cases, the wavy are rather caring parents, they feed their children until the moment when it will be possible to plant them. In the first weeks, it is difficult for young parrots to master the skills of self-nutrition, therefore, they often lose weight.

If the chick has reached 21 days of age and leaves the nest, while mom and dad are busy feeding his younger brothers and sisters, the owner may need to take care of additional feeding. This can be determined by the weight of young birds.

Forced feeding of wavy

There are circumstances that prevent parents from feeding their babies. For this, owners can use artificial feeding.

This happens in the following situations:

  • illness or death of the female or male;
  • aggressive attitude of parents to offspring;
  • when saving abandoned chicks;
  • if the offspring is received in an incubator.

Artificial feeding lasts as long as the chicks need time to grow stronger, and they can be sent to another cage. After that, you are guaranteed to have fully manual chicks of budgies.
